Johnson County’s Rural Addressing System is based on a “mileage post system” (distance in miles from the beginning of an addressable road to the point being addressed). Addresses are assigned by Johnson County, appropriate county offices and postmasters are notified, and personnel from Johnson County Road & Bridge can install a new address sign. If the landowner prefers, once an address has been assigned they can simply pick up the rural addressing sign at the Road & Bridge office at 325 Butte Street and install it themselves.
